3JK Engineering Consultants, LLC is a privately-owned small business specializing in providing high-quality solutions to demanding technical problems.  Our mission is to provide high value added services and hardware to private and public sector clients.  3JK currently provides services in engineering and design, analysis, rapid prototyping, testing, and project management.

 

 3JK Engineering Consultants, LLC was formed on the premise that there is a market need for experienced engineering personnel to solve our clients’ most challenging technical problems.  3JK recognizes that in a global economy its services must provide a high benefit-to-cost ratio in order for our clients to invest in our capabilities.       

 

3JK utilizes a network of consultants to provide "surge" capabilities to its customers as needed when limited-term task orders require rapid response from experienced professionals.  Our consultants have established working relationships with local businesses throughout New Mexico.  3JK teams with other New Mexico small businesses when required to increase our ability to meet customer needs.  3JK team members, with an average experience level of over 20 years, include mechanical and electrical engineers, designers, and project managers.  This expertise allows 3JK to provide a unique range of services. 

About 3JK's Founder

James Maestas is a Professional Mechanical Engineer with more than 25 years of diverse experience including electro-mechanical equipment design in a variety of oil field, defense, nuclear facility, and material-handling related fields.  Project Engineer for various equipment design tasks for the DOE Complex.  Previously served as a Project Manager and Design Engineer for the development of equipment designs for nuclear facilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) and the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site (RFETS).  Accomplished in the development of design documentation including design criteria documents, conceptual design reports, engineering calculation reports, test reports, fabrication documents, cost analyses, and scheduling.

 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

 

Area 52/Chevron ETC – Engineering Consultant

Mechanical Design Engineer engaged in the development of innovative downhole sensors for the oil & gas industry.  Accomplishments include design of downhole pressure and temperature instrumentation capable of operating at temperatures in excess of 600 ºF. Design efforts included concept development, design analysis using FEM and closed-form solution techniques, build-to-print drawings, fabrication support, testing, and field deployment of the tools.

 

Merrick & Company –Principal Design Engineer

Project Engineer and Lead Design Engineer for multiple equipment design projects with responsibilities including bid preparation, cost estimating, scheduling, resource planning, performance tracking, and design development.  Project Engineer for Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) Project with responsibilities including managing and coordinating the efforts of a large multi-disciplinary design team.  Overall responsibility for technical content of designs and assisting the project manager with management of scope and schedule.

 

Los Alamos National Laboratory – Technical Staff Member

Mechanical Engineer within the Weapons Testing Engineering Group responsible for design and fielding of diagnostic equipment in support of hydrodynamic test activities. Conducted engineering analyses, fielded diagnostic test equipment, developed engineering designs, provided fabrication technical support, prepared test plans, and installed//deployed structures and equipment to provide containment in support of dynamic tests. Lead Test Engineer on multiple hydrodynamic tests.

 

ARES Corporation – Mechanical Design Engineer

Engaged in conceptual design and analysis activities in support of customer research & development efforts.  Performed finite element analyses on equipment and structures.  Prepared technical reports and documentation to convey design & analysis results to customers.

 

Pajarito Scientific Corporation –Project Engineer

Managed individual projects by allocating resources, preparing specifications, reviewing subcontractor proposals and acting as technical liaison for subcontracted project activities.  Assisted in the preparation of estimates, bids, and proposals  Planned, organized, & led effort to prepare successful proposal for NDA equipment with contract value in excess of $2M.   Oversaw on-site installations and supported project activities at customer facilities.  Carried out engineering, design and detailing of mechanical equipment and structures for Non-Destructive Assay instrumentation.   Directed designers and drafters in efforts to complete tasks on schedule.

 

Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site – Engineer III

Facilities Engineer engaged in preparation, review, and analysis of design/build engineering packages.  Established testing and inspection hold points for maintenance and construction activities affecting the nuclear facility safety envelope.
